This trend use to be a MAJOR fashion faux pas, but in recent seasons it has
turned into a fashion do! Of course mixing prints the right way has its
tricks. First and most importantly keep the prints in the same color family
or at least share one color. If you are new at mixing prints, start with
classic pattern such as strips, polka dots, and plaid. Lastly and most
importantly, always remember to add a solid to your outfit and keep the
accessories to a minimum.
Fall is just around the corner, and even though in our fabulous city of Houston, we don’t have a regular fall, we can still follow some fun trends to make this upcoming fall fell more seasonable
We are very visual people so wearing the colors of the season is a priority to make the 90 degree weather feel cool. Look for green, orange, black and navy.
Fall is all about a more classic and sophisticated look, a cinched waist will give you that chic touch. This can also be a great way to transition some of your spring looks such as the peplum into fall.
Leather (or faux leather) is back! You must add a piece of leather to your wardrobe, either with a full dress or a simple touch with leggings.
Classic stripes are a classic and will always be in trend. To make it more interesting, this season skip the usual two tune stripes and opt for three different colors.
During his Spring 2012, designer Narciso Rodriguez introduced us to a new option for the classic toxido
trouser. It has the classic wide leg cut, but Rodriguez adds a low cut fit and a two or even three tone
waist to give the look that modern feeling.

Might be a scary trend for some (Jessica Simpson's mom jeans fiasco), but a
well fitted high waisted pair of pants can be very flattering on your body,
not to mention no more muffin top! . This trend is fantastic for girls with
a long torso; the high waist gives the illusion of longer legs. This trend
is more of a dress up look, so always pairs it with high heels or very tall
wedges. Also another very important tip, always tuck in your shirt or wear a
Yigal Azrouel was one of the designers who incorporated this trend
brilliantly in to his Spring 2012 collection. Azrouel added a mixture of
colors and fabrics to the sophisticated high waist pants, including denim.
Mets and Yigal Azrouël collaboration!
To celebrate both of their 50th anniversary, the CFDA and the New York Mets partner to created some fabulous sporting apparel. They asked different designers, including one of our favorite Yigal Azrouël to participate.
Yigal stayed with a classic look and chose to design a classic Henley.
“I think that people forget that fashion is a hidden part in designing a uniform. A lot of thought goes into the creative and the intention of the design. It is how people represent and support their team. Fashion isn’t just dresses and shoes. Fashion is an industry that works to create a community but also enables a certain self-expression that I think can easily be found in sports.”
And for all the fans you can pre-order your Yigal Azrouël Mets henley at Edition01.com
Floral, floral, and more floral; It has been a HUGE season for floral this
spring, but it is not your typical grandma's wall paper. This season many
designers choose more modern methods, such as electronically engineered
patterns to create a floral effect. Most of our favorite designers are
perfect examples of this trend.
Vera Wang Spring 2012 collection was inspired by Alice and Wonderland. To
add to that psychedelic staple of the story book, Wang created a print
inspired by eighteenth-century wallpaper, where the floral pattern seems to
look like as if it is dripping off their delicate dresses.
Another of our favorites, Prabal Gurung, decided to collaborat with a
printmaker in London to create a floral motif, inspired by Araki's Sensual
Flowers series. He emphasizes tones of aqua green, black and mostly purple
in this collection. Just as Wang, Gurung's modern floral patterns go hand in
hand with the modern style of his clothes.
And on the other side, the always classic Jason Wu chose a softer way to
create a floral pattern. Wu collaborated with graffiti artist KAWS on a
flower-petal print, but unlike Wang or Gurung it is not as abstract. Wu
focused on blues and grays, always staying with his classic signature look.
This is where the magic happens… NO… we are not talking about the bedroom but a designer’s studio. This is where their ideas are born and even created. Thanks to the Vogue’s ‘Studio Tour’ series we can get a closer look to where one of our favorite designers, Jason Wu spends most of his time.
Before becoming Wu’s studio, the space was a not so chic investment firm , “It was the ugliest office I’d ever seen, I thought: We have to bring some history back into this space,” the designer admits. A gorgeous vintage sewingmachine, a pair of 1940s sliding doors and a variety of books to create a magnificent library did the trick!
The eighties are back and a great example of this is the peplum. This time
the peplum comes back with a more sophisticated look or even in a few cases
a more modern, edgy look. Without a doubt, the peplum has been a favorite
trend this spring season and it seems to continue for the fall. Two of our
favorite designers who brought back the peplum this spring are Jason Wu and
Vera Wang. Jason Wu brought his signature, classic sophistication to the
peplum; on the other side, Vera Wang gave the peplum a modern and more edgy
This spring we have been paying a lot attention to the bright colors but let’s not forget the sophisticated trend of black and white. There is no more classic combination than of mixing black and white i.e. Coco Chanel’s Black and white stripe shirt.
This season designers such as Narciso Rodrigues used the two colors to create a chic and crisp look mixing white with accents of black.
We still have resort 2013 market in our mind; here are some stand out trends of the season to keep in mind.
The continuation of the Peplums:
The Peplum has been a hot trend this past spring and resort seasons and it’s still strong for next Resort!
Denim on Denim:
Unlike Spring this time the denim has to match, sometimes wearing it as a suit.
This trend has been hot for a while and it seems that is here to stay, this time with a more sophisticated look.
From pre fall to fall to resort a printed jacket is a must!
Last week the Atrium’s buying team took a quick trip to NYC to do some shopping during resort market.
The team had a chance to visit the show rooms of amazing designers such as Prabal Gurung, Yigal Azrouel and Narciso Rodriguez.
While buying our team not only focused on the latest trends and style, but also keep in mind important things that our clients might appreciate.
